Pastors Can Be Control Freaks

I've always been dismayed by pastors who see shepherding as the micromanaging of each person's journey.

Here's an amusing illustration at nakedpastor's blog.

Wow. The comments are pretty dang scary....

No offense, but that wouldn't describe about 95% of the pastors that I know personally.

Can't say I'd agree with your assessment there.

Foxfier - yeah they were.

I think it exactly describes most pastors in the U.S. If not micromanaging, than by creating a subculture one must live within to be accepted.

I don't know that I'd be as harsh as Recovering and/or David (naked pastor), nor as generous as Shane. I suspect it falls somewhere in between.

Though, to be honest, I think this fault is something that lies more in church boards than in pastors. Many's the time I've known of church boards to hire a pastor, and then hobble him to make him hold to "their" view of what his messages should be, rather than letting him be himself (and preach from his heart) and/or let the congregation decide whether they like what he says/wants to say.

That is part of the reason why I believe it is unBiblical to have churches with corporate leadership structures.

But real corporations are set up with a person in charge and a layer of folks under him; if you've got the right leader, they just carry out his intents.

Kinda like Jesus and the 12....
